Activepieces is an open-source workflow automation tool in the same family as Zapier: pick a trigger, chain steps together in a visual editor, and drop in a TypeScript step wherever you need one. Each integration is a separate "piece", so the list of services it connects to grows without upgrading the whole app.
What you would use it for
Automate repetitive work across SaaS tools — email, spreadsheets, CRM, chat — with an editor that people who do not write code can use.
Receive webhooks from other systems, then filter, transform and forward them; webhook URLs point straight at the app’s domain.
Build flows with AI steps that call models using your own API keys, with run history stored locally.
What Keenrig handles for you
The embedded database (PGlite) and the credential encryption key live in one persistent volume — tested: an account still signs in after the container is deleted and recreated.
Every install gets its own random `AP_JWT_SECRET`, shared with no other install.
`AP_FRONTEND_URL` is set from the app’s first domain, and usage telemetry back to Activepieces is switched off.
Pinned to digest `sha256:d22e3f36…` of release 0.92.1.
What it does not do. This is single-container mode: an embedded database and an in-memory queue, right for individuals and small teams, with no multiple replicas; an in-memory queue means runs in progress can be lost when the container restarts. The piece list is fetched from Activepieces’ servers at runtime, so a machine without outbound network access will be missing integrations. The encryption key lives in the volume: lose the volume and every saved credential is gone, so back it up. The community edition is MIT-licensed; some enterprise features fall outside that licence.
Activepieces or n8n?
Both are visual automation builders you can install from the catalog. Pick Activepieces if the people building flows do not write code, or you need an MIT-licensed community edition; its code steps are TypeScript. Pick n8n if you need JavaScript or Python steps, many ready-made AI agent nodes, or the machine has no outbound network access — n8n ships its integrations inside the image, while Activepieces pieces are fetched at runtime. Self-host n8n on a VPS in one command
